Biology and Behavior
Bed bugs are small parasitic insects known to feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals. Bed bugs, though not strictly nocturnal, are mainly active at night and are capable of feeding unnoticed on their hosts.
Bed bugs are a people problem, being spread by the movement of people from one location to another
- Except for the egg, all stages of bed bugs from nymphs to adults feed on blood
- Bed bugs are capable of surviving for over a year without feeding
- It may take several weeks for an immature bed bug to fully digest a blood meal.
- Bed bugs can get a blood meal from other bed bugs.
- Generally speaking, bed bugs spend most of their time hiding, preferring undisturbed areas
- While bed bugs are commonly active at night, they will feed in the daytime essentially attacking their host in its sleep.
- Bed bugs will typically avoid crawling on their host when seeking a blook meal.

Allergy Relief
Keep Allergens Out | Let Comfort In
Allergy Relief
Over 50 million people in the U.S. today are affected by airborne allergens. Mattress Safe® products provide the first line of defense against dust mites, bacteria and other allergens with hypoallergenic encasements for your mattresses, box springs and pillows.
What is Allergy Bedding?
Tips to Minimize Dust Mite Exposure*:
- Put mattresses, box springs and pillows in special cases that are allergy-proof or “non-allergenic”.
- Wash blankets, sheets and pillowcases in 130-degree water and dry in a hot dryer every week.
- Get rid of extra clutter in your home that may be collecting dust, such as stacks of books, knick-knacks, stuffed animals or collectibles.
- Remove carpeting and replace it with washable throw rugs, or vacuum it frequently.
- Change and clean cooling and heating system filters once a month.
- Have your home, care and office vacuumed and dusted frequently.
- Regularly wash curtains.
What Makes Mattress Safe® Preferred?
Compared to standard hypoallergenic mattress covers and protectors, Mattress Safe® smooth Sofcover® fabric offers a variety of advantages:
- Convenient to wipe down or lightly vacuum to remove allergens between washings.
- Resistant to the flourishing of mold and bacteria in the mattress, decreasing the population of allergy inducing spores.
- Breathable, so moisture is wicked away from the body for greater comfort in both hot and cold environments.
- Waterproof for protection against spills and fluids.
Lightweight and launders like a sheet, resulting in less saturation and bulk when wet. - Comfortable, noiseless, and soft to the touch, allowing for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Allergy treatment professionals recommend allergen barrier encasements for your bedding as your first line of defense for dust mite allergies and asthma. Encasing your mattress, box spring and pillows protect you from inhaling allergens that become airborne from your body’s movement in bed.

Stay Dry, Stay Comfortable – Always
Our premium waterproof mattress and pillow protectors offer reliable protection against bedwetting, incontinence, accidental spills and stains, helping you keep your bedding fresh and hygienic.
How Do They Work?
Our waterproof fabric features a mean pore size of less than 0.01 microns. To put that in perspective:
- Water droplets are much larger, typically between 10 and 20 microns—so they can’t penetrate the fabric.
- Air molecules, on the other hand, are much smaller than 0.01 microns, which allows for steady ventilation, up to 22 liters per minute of airflow, keeping you cool and comfortable throughout the night.
Built to Block Allergens and Pests
The ultra-fine barrier also serves as a shield against common allergens and pests:
- Dust mites: ~10 microns
- Bed bug nymphs: ~1,000 microns
- Most bacteria and pathogens are larger than 0.01 microns
That means our encasements stop spills and block dust mites, bed bugs, and microscopic allergens, making them a wise choice for allergy sufferers and health-conscious households.

Fire Retardant
Fire Retardant Mattress, Box Spring, and Pillow Encasements
At Mattress Safe, your safety is our priority. That’s why all our mattresses, box springs, and pillow encasements are manufactured using high-quality fabric that has been rigorously tested for fire resistance.
We are proud to share that our encasement fabric has been tested by the Fire Protection Agency and meets the requirements of the Cigarette Burn Test – CFR Title 16, Part 1632. This federal regulation ensures that bedding products resist ignition from smoldering cigarettes, significantly reducing the risk of fire-related accidents in your home.
When you choose our encasements, you’re not only protecting your mattress and pillows from allergens, dust mites, and bed bugs—you’re also choosing an added layer of safety that meets federal flammability standards.
Safe. Reliable. Certified.
